How to play music on Discord using a Bot?

One of the most popular ways to play music in Discord is by adding a Music bot to your server. Using this music bot, you can play music directly from various sources like YouTube, SoundCloud, or your local files.

Not just that, you can also create playlists, queue songs, and control the volume directly using the bot’s commands.

Here are the steps to add a music bot to your Discord server and how to use it to play music:

1. Find a music bot.

There are numerous music bots for Discord, each with unique features. In a previous article, we’ve already explored some of the best music bots, including popular options like Rythm, Groovy, and FredBoat.

Refer to that article for a detailed comparison and decide which bot best suits your needs.

2. Invite the bot to your server.

Once you’ve chosen your bot, you’ll need to invite that bot to your Discord server. This was usually done by visiting the bot’s website and clicking on Invite or Add to Discord button.

But since Discord now has an App Directory, you can easily find your bot without leaving the platform.

For this guide, let’s use Chip Music Bot as an example. To invite Chip Bot to your server;

  1. Click on the Server Name at the top left corner of your Discord screen.
  2. Select App Directory from the menu.app directory option discord pc
  3. In the App Directory, search Chip Bot.search bot inside discord pc app directory
  4. Click on the bot’s card and then click Add to Server.add chip music bot press add to server discord pc
  5. Select the server you’d like to add the bot to.select server for discord music bot
  6. Then, confirm all the permissions the bot requests. (they’re necessary for it to function properly.)

Your bot should now be added to your Discord server. You can check its presence in the sidebar under “Online.”

3. Use the bot commands to play music on your server.

Once the bot is added, you can use its commands to play music on your server. These commands vary from bot to bot, but usually, they follow a similar structure, viz, the command word followed by the song name or URL.

For example, if you’re using Chip Bot, hop on to a voice channel and then play your song by typing /play [song name/song link] inside any text channel.

Chip Bot will then join your voice channel and start playing the requested song. You can add more songs to the queue, play or pause, or even create playlists using their commands.

You can check out the Chip Bot Commands page on the official website to learn more about the various commands and how to use them.

Whether you use Chip or any other music bot, the process is essentially the same. You invite the bot to your server, use the bot’s commands to play music, and control the playback as desired. The bot’s commands are usually listed on their official website or documentation.

How to play music in Discord on Mobile?

If you are using Discord on your mobile, don’t worry; you can still play music on your server. But unlike the desktop version, you can’t access Discord’s App Directory from the mobile app. You will have to open the App directory on your smartphone’s browser.

Here’s how to play music in Discord on Android or iPhone.

  1. Find and invite a music bot from Discord’s App Directory to your server.
  2. Once the bot is added, open the Discord app and navigate to that server.
  3. Now hop on to a voice channel where you want to play the music.
  4. Next, type the bot’s command to play music in any text channel. For example, if you’re using Chip Music Bot, you would type /play [song name/URL].
  5. The bot will join your voice channel and start playing the requested song.

Remember, you need to be in a voice channel for the bot to play music. The bot will prompt you to join a channel if you’re not already in one. Once you do, retype the command, and the bot will start playing your song.

Also, remember that the commands for each music bot might vary slightly, so always refer to the bot’s official documentation for a complete list of commands and their usage.
