How to delete or deactivate your Threads account?

Are you one of those who jumped on the Threads app bandwagon with other 90 million users, and created a Threads account only to figure out that this platform isn’t meant for you.

Or, if you feel apprehensive about using Threads App due to its privacy related concerns and want to delete or deactivate your Threads account.

Here is you can easily Delete or Deactivate your Threads account.

How to Delete your Threads account?

While it is possible to delete your Threads account, but to do so you’ll have to lose your Instagram account as well. In simple words, you will need to delete your Instagram to delete your Threads account.

As both Instagram and Threads are linked, it’s not possible to delete account on one app without losing the other. Which seems a bit absurd for a platform by a company like Meta to ship a half-baked product omitting such a basic feature.

But the good news is Meta is working on a way that will allow users to delete their Threads profile without messing their Instagram.

Unless your Instagram is not important to you, I’ll suggest you to Deactivate your Threads profile instead and wait for the feature to arrive. If otherwise, you can follow the steps mentioned below to delete your Threads account, or I’d say to delete your Instagram account for deleting your Threads profile.

  1. Open Instagram app on your phone, and head over to your profile.open instagram app settings menu
  2. Now, tap on the Menu icon on top right, and select Settings and privacy from the options.
  3. Inside Settings and privacy settings, open Account Center.
  4. Inside Account Center, open Personal Details, then Account ownership and control and select Deactivation or deletion from the list of options.
  5. Here you’ll see all your accounts linked to your Meta profile.
  6. Simply tap the Instagram account that you used to create your threads profile, then select Delete Account option and press the Continue button.select delete your instagram account option
  7. Now select the reason for deletion, press the Continue button. Then enter your Instagram password, and press Continue again.confirm deleting your instagram account by entering your password
  8. And finally, press the Delete account button to request deletion of your Instagram account.

Do note that, it will take 30 days for your Instagram account to be deleted permanently. During this time, both your Instagram and Threads account will still be active. If you change your mind and want to keep using Threads or Instagram or both, you can reactivate them by logging back into your account within those 30 days.

How to Deactivate your Threads account?

It’s not an easy decision for anyone to lose their Instagram just to get rid of their Threads account.

For most of us this is not an option, but if you really want to get rid of your Threads account you can deactivate it to temporarily suspend your activities on the app.

Here is how to deactivate Threads account.

  1. Open Threads app on your Smartphone, and head over to your Profile tab.access menu on threads app
  2. Now, tap on the Menu icon on top right, and select Accounts from the options.access account settings inside threads app
  3. Inside Accounts, tap on Deactivate profile, then press Deactivate Threads profile button to deactivate your account, and press OK to confirm deactivating your threads profile.

And that’s how you can temporarily deactivate your Threads account. Keep in mind that deactivating your Threads profile has no effect on your Instagram account.

Once you deactivate your Threads account, your profile, messages, and connections will be hidden. However, if you decide to reactivate your Threads account in the future, you can do so by simply logging back in with your Instagram credentials.

Does deleting Threads delete Instagram?

It is not possible to delete your Threads account without deleting your Instagram. This is because Threads and Instagram are linked and deleting one will result in the deletion of the other.

If you want to get rid of your Threads account, you should consider deactivating it instead. Unless Meta decides to introduce a feature that allows users to delete their Threads account without deleting their Instagram, deactivating is the only option.

Break the Threads – Delete or Deactivate your Threads account!

Deleting or deactivating your Threads account is a personal choice based on your preferences and concerns regarding privacy and its usage. Make sure to consider all the factors before taking any action.

If you choose to delete your Threads account, you will need to delete your Instagram account as well, as they are interconnected. This means losing your Instagram account altogether along with all its data.

Alternatively, if you prefer to keep your Instagram account but no longer want to use Threads, you can deactivate your Threads account. You can always reactivate it in the future if needed.
